Both media players use the LIVE.COM client code (for playing RTSP/RTP 
streams).  Each media player is Open Source, so the source code that 
interfaces with the LIVE.COM client code is available.

For MPlayer, see the "demux_rtp*" code in the "libmpdemux" directory.

For VLC, see "vlc/modules/demux/livedotcom.cpp".
