[Live-devel] audio latency

Ross,
You may remember I was trying to use darkice to capture audio and send
it to an icecast server and a named pipe (fifo). I was then using
livecaster to read the audio from the named pipe for transmit across the
network. On the remote end I used vlc to play the data. This setup on
linux had major audio drift increasing between 1 second every 2 hours on
linux 2.6 kernel and 1 second every 4 hours on 2.4 kernel. I tried both
livecaster and testMP3Stream.
Switching over to FreeBSD with the same software compiled using the same
options. Does not gain any latency over the initial 24 hour period. Can
you think of an reason why I would see this latency drift on linux but not
freebsd?
