I don't have time to read through all this, but - for now at least - 
I'm not going to be making any more changes to the signature of (or 
call to) the "specialClientAccessCheck()" virtual function.  As far 
as I can tell, this function is sufficient to implement any 
non-standard access checking, based on the identity of the client, 
and/or the URL that it's trying to access.

(The standard, password-based "Digest authentication" mechanism is 
more flexible anyway.)
