Another observation may be helpful - what amount of initial buffering (wrt
time duration) is done by VLC and the player in STB. If possible, try to
reduce the initial buffering time in VLC and check whether stalling has
appeared.

You are right, the DCM it's on the other side of the cable. But I don't 
believe there shouldn't be much difference: it's a GB network with only the 
PC and the DCM in it and only one stream flowing. Anyway, it's a worthy 
test. I'll tell you what happens.
