Sorry for the constant posts--I solved it.  Again, timestamping bug.  I
changed my code to use the gettimeofday() defined in GroupsockHelper.hh, and
everything works, so...pretty clear the problem is in our timestamping class
(portable timestamping code == royal PITA).
