FYI, the latest version (2012.10.22) of the "LIVE555 Streaming Media" code updates the "AVIFileSink" implementation to add an index at the end of each AVI file, as you suggested.  However, I'm not sure if the implementation is correct, because when I tried running "openRTSP" to record a AVI file, and then used VLC to try playing the file, VLC still complained about the AVI file index being "broken or missing".  So, please check the code, and let me know if there are any problems.
