[Live-devel] Best way to "signal" RTPSink to stop playing

Because the communication is via UDP rather than TCP, there’s no explicit ‘connection’ that you can test.  What you can do, however, is periodically (e.g., every 10 seconds) check how many RTP packets have been received, and if no new RTP packets have been received since the last time you checked, then you can assume that the far end has died.

E.g., note how we implement the "-D <maximum-inter-packet-gap>” option in “openRTSP”; see “testProgs/playCommon.cpp”.

You should also implement a RTCP “BYE” handler (at each end).  However, this is just a ‘hint’; there’s no guarantee that the far end will send a RTCP “BYE” when it ends.
