I don’t know.  For some reason your OS/runtime is telling “select()” that there is data available to be read from the socket, even though there isn’t.  But that’s OK; our code is still working OK.

Please everybody: If you’re having a problem with the code, then just tell us what problem you’re having.  Stop trying to diagnose the problem yourself by asking obscure questions about parts of the code that might have nothing to do with your problem.  (This has been happening a lot lately :-(
