FYI this has worked.
I have also interposed an RTP translator between the streaming server and vlc client (RTP translator on the same machine as OpenRTSP) and i succeeded in playing the first 12 seconds of the stream.
Thanks Ross, I myself would never have got that idea, you're pretty good. ;-)
