  I can't comment on the Windows built in VPN, but our Cisco VPN client 
and Multicast don't get along very well.

  The Linux version of Cisco's VPN client puts it's hooks directly into 
the IP stack to control the routing and enforce the policies set on the 
VPN server. (And if you try to use a different kernel from what Cisco 
support.....)

  I imagine the Windows version is the same, and that the Windows PPTP 
VPN client has similar features and probably messes about in the dark 
depths of the IP stack as well.
