First, you can forget Windows Media Player; it does not properly support 
the RTSP protocol.  (Do you really expect Microsoft software to support 
open standards? :-)

QuickTime Player, however, should be able to support almost every RTSP/RTP 
stream that VLC supports.  (The only exceptions that I know of are MP3 and 
MPEG-2 video.)
