[Live-devel] (RTSP+UDP) with Windows Media Server - problem

Hi.

Thanks for the quick response.

The Windows Media Server DOES support RTSP/RTP/UDP - because when
playing the content via Windows Media Player - and forcing it to use
RTSP+UDP it succeeds in doing so, and ETHREAL recording shows that the
data is transferred in RTP/RTSP/USP protocols...

Although, there are several significant differences (here are some
extracts from the Windows media client record session):

The Client sends SETUP 3 times and the ports are handled differently:

1.
client -->
SETUP rtsp://s-media1/spider_od/rtx RTSP/1.0
Transport:
RTP/AVP/UDP;unicast;client_port=1206-1207;ssrc=9cef6565;mode=PLAY

server <--
RTSP/1.0 200 OK
Transport:
RTP/AVP/UDP;unicast;server_port=5004-5005;client_port=1206-1207;ssrc=e34
90f0d;mode=PLAY

2.
client -->
SETUP rtsp://s-media1/spider_od/audio RTSP/1.0
Transport: RTP/AVP/UDP;unicast;client_port=1208;ssrc=9a789797;mode=PLAY

Server <--
RTSP/1.0 200 OK
Transport:
RTP/AVP/UDP;unicast;server_port=5004;client_port=1208;ssrc=8873c0ac;mode
=PLAY

3.
client -->
SETUP rtsp://s-media1/spider_od/video RTSP/1.0
Transport: RTP/AVP/UDP;unicast;client_port=1208;ssrc=275f7979;mode=PLAY

Server <--
RTSP/1.0 200 OK
Transport:
RTP/AVP/UDP;unicast;server_port=5004;client_port=1208;ssrc=8873c0cf;mode
=PLAY

Thanks for any help.

Noam Oren.

This error message probably means just what it says - the server does
not support RTP/UDP streaming. I don't know why - you'd need to ask
Microsoft. In general, though, you can't expect Microsoft's
streaming software to conform to standards at all. (I'm surprised
that you were even able to get RTP/TCP streaming to work.)
