Dear Ross,

I'm not trying to reinvent i'm just trying to develop an utility to
test some of the camera and there quality of service.

I have to test mpeg4, H.264 as well as MJPEG formats, the total no of
bytes recieved , packet loss, video loss etc.

I would also like to know whther openrtsp is capable of handling MJPEG
formats on http protocol.

I would be happy to have your insight.

Why reinvent the wheel? I suggest just using the existing VLC media
player: <http://www.videolan.org/vlc/>. It is Open Source, runs on
Windows (and many other OSs), and uses the "LIVE555 Streaming Media"
code for its RTSP client implementation. It should be able to play
the stream from an Axis camera.
